Joint Production by Moon Production and Heingureum
The world's leading short-form drama platform, Reel Short, is producing Korea's first short-form drama, "Gumiho, Unmyeongui Jjak," set in Jeonju, the most authentically Korean city.
The city announced on the 25th that Reel Short, together with Korea's top short-form drama production companies Moon Production and Heingureum, will jointly produce a short-form drama set in Jeonju.
This new work is based on the popular Reel Short series "Fated to My Forbidden Alpha," which has recorded 200 million views, and will depict a uniquely Korean story of fateful love and conflict between humans and supernatural beings.
Notably, the drama will be directed by Jung Hyeonggeon, who has demonstrated solid directing skills and a keen visual sense across various genres, including "Adult Trainee," "Let's Eat 3: Begins," "Rude Miss Youngae Season 16," and "Drinking Solo."
Actor Moon Jihoo, who won the Excellence Award at the 2024 MBC Drama Awards, will play the male lead, raising expectations for the drama's success.
Filming locations will include not only Hanok Village, where Korea's unique traditional beauty blends with the city, but also iconic Jeonju landmarks such as Jeonbuk National University and Deokjin Park.
The city expects that, once Reel Short is released to the public, it will serve as an opportunity to introduce Jeonju's most representative tourist attractions to people around the world.
In particular, the city anticipates that revealing Jeonju's hidden charms, where tradition and modernity coexist, will attract many tourists.
In this context, Reel Short, the world's number one short-form drama platform, accounts for 50% of global short-form platform revenue. Its popularity in the United States and Europe is expected to play a significant role in spreading Korean Wave content, especially in Jeonju, which is emerging as a hub of K-culture.
Moon Sunhee, CEO of Moon Production, said, "This drama, with its emotionally resonant and powerful story imbued with uniquely Korean charm, will be a great opportunity to showcase not only the appeal of Korean short-form dramas but also the beautiful sights of Jeonju to global viewers."
Mayor Woo Beomgi stated, "Jeonju is a city that represents Korea in film and video, and is an ideal place for film and video production. We will actively support the production of Reel Short so that this branding can grow into an industry and lead to job creation."
