Kim Bu-gyeom "Ruling Party Leadership Must Take Responsibility for South Korea's Impeachment Dismissal... Now Is the Time to Focus on Yoon's Removal"

"Han Ducksoo Must Appoint Ma Eunhyuk as Constitutional Court Justice"

Former Prime Minister Kim Boo-kyum pointed out that "the Democratic Party leadership must feel a heavy responsibility" in relation to the Constitutional Court's dismissal of the impeachment motion against Prime Minister Han Duck-soo.

On the 24th, Kim Boo-kyum expressed through social media (SNS) that he "respects the decision" of the Constitutional Court and made this remark.

He stated that although former Prime Minister Han avoided dismissal for now, he must deeply reflect on the responsibility for provoking political strife and urged the appointment of Justice Ma Eun-hyuk to the Constitutional Court. Kim said, "With this decision, Prime Minister Han avoided dismissal, but that does not exempt him from responsibility for violating the Constitution," adding, "The responsibility for provoking political strife by ignoring the will of the National Assembly still remains."

He continued, "The justice recommended by the National Assembly should be promptly appointed so that the Constitutional Court can function properly," and added, "There should be no further controversy so that our economy does not become more unstable."

The day before, the Constitutional Court pointed out regarding former Prime Minister Han’s appointment of Justice Ma that "he meets the qualifications stipulated by the Constitution and the Constitutional Court Act, and there is no defect in the election process that violates the Constitution, which is based on parliamentary democracy, or laws such as the National Assembly Act," and stated that rejecting the appointment was a violation of the Constitution and the State Public Officials Act.

Kim Boo-kyum also strongly criticized the Democratic Party’s responsibility regarding the dismissal of the impeachment. He said, "The criticism that the impeachment was premature is painful," and added, "If we cannot exercise restraint with the power given by the people, we cannot earn the trust of the people."

Regarding the delayed ruling on President Yoon Suk-yeol’s impeachment, he said, "The people's wait is getting longer," and emphasized, "The constitutional order must be restored promptly." He also seemed mindful of the party’s plan to push for the impeachment of Choi Sang-mok, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance, adding, "It is time to focus on the dismissal of President Yoon."
