Oh Kwangrok, Gwangju Seo-gu Council Member, Designates 'Golmokhyeong Sangjeomga' for Commercial District Revitalization

Partial Amendment to the Alley-type Shopping District Designation Ordinance
Passes Standing Committee in Original Form

Gwangju Seo-gu Council member Oh Gwangrok (representing Gwangcheon-dong, Yudeok-dong, Chipyeong-dong, Sangmu 1-dong, and Dongcheon-dong) proposed a partial amendment to the 'Ordinance on the Designation of Alley-type Shopping Districts in Seo-gu,' which passed the relevant standing committee in its original form during the 329th temporary session of the Gwangju Seo-gu Council.

According to Council member Oh on the 24th, an alley-type shopping district can be applied for if there are 15 or more stores run by small business owners within an area of up to 2,000㎡. Once designated, these districts become eligible to apply for various government projects, and merchants within the district can also register as Onnuri Gift Certificate affiliated stores.

This amendment focused on providing a legal basis for budget support for business revitalization projects promoted by alley-type shopping districts, such as ▲improving customer accessibility and the environment ▲implementing joint marketing and developing joint products and designs ▲hosting festivals and promoting specialized streets.

Last year, Council member Oh revised the ordinance to lower the minimum number of stores required for designation from 25 to 15, making it more suitable for local conditions. With this amendment, he is working to clarify the grounds for support projects and further revitalize the local economy.

Oh stated, "I hope that small business owners will receive tangible support amid these difficult economic times, and I look forward to continued efforts by the Seo-gu Office to expand the designation and support of alley-type shopping districts."
