Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism Selects Organizations for Strategic Sports Development Projects Including Badminton and Shooting

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced on the 24th that it has selected a total of five sports organizations?badminton, shooting, swimming, archery, and fencing?as subsidized entities for the '2025-2026 Strategic Sports Development Project.'

The budget for this year's Strategic Sports Development Project is 5 billion KRW, with up to 1 billion KRW provided to each selected organization. South Korea's sports sector is facing structural limitations such as a shrinking base due to population decline. In response, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism conducted a call for proposals for the Strategic Sports Development Project targeting summer Olympic sports organizations (excluding sports with Sports Promotion Lottery issuance) to support mid- to long-term base expansion and performance enhancement based on advanced science, aiming to establish a sustainable development foundation for South Korea's sports sector.

The ministry plans to support the selected sports organizations to carry out their projects for up to four years (2+2) until the 2028 Olympics through mid-term performance evaluations based on self-established business plans. The project plans for each selected sports organization will be finalized through consulting with collaborative institutions such as the Korea Institute of Sport Science.

Among the selected sports, archery plans to establish a national representative reserve team to continuously improve performance and to activate school sports archery education to expand the sport's base. In shooting, plans include analyzing competition videos and training to nurture and manage elite athletes, visiting specialized athlete schools and providing shooting education to discover new athletes and expand the base, and conducting firearm inspections by specialized firearm repair companies to support national representatives and professional athletes.
