Strengthened Wildfire Preparedness Measures for Seoul

On the morning of the 23rd, Seoul City held an emergency meeting on 'Seoul City Wildfire Support and Prevention Measures' chaired by Mayor Oh Se-hoon to prepare support measures for the large wildfire that occurred in the Yeongnam region and to review wildfire risk measures in the Seoul area.

Following Mayor Oh's directive of 'deploy first, report later' in emergencies, the city coordinated with the National Fire Agency to urgently dispatch support personnel and vehicles to the wildfire site in Uiseong-gun and has been assisting with firefighting efforts since early dawn. The deployment includes 65 firefighting personnel and 22 firefighting vehicles (10 pump trucks, 10 water tank trucks, and one each of 119 rescue vehicle and patrol car).

On the morning of the 23rd, Seoul City held an emergency meeting on 'Seoul City Wildfire Support and Prevention Measures' at City Hall, chaired by Mayor Oh Se-hoon. The meeting focused on preparing support measures for large wildfires that occurred in the Yeongnam region, including Uiseong, Gyeongbuk, and reviewing wildfire risk-related measures in the Seoul area. Additionally, since the risk of wildfires is high in the Seoul area as well, measures are being implemented accordingly. To preemptively block wildfire causes, a wildfire specialized prevention and suppression patrol team of 130 members is conducting patrols, and 43 unmanned wildfire surveillance cameras are in operation. Wildfire monitoring is also conducted using unmanned aerial drones, and campaigns to prevent arson are being promoted targeting visitors to the mountains. Furthermore, 30 wildfire prevention headquarters are being operated in preparation.

Mayor Oh Se-hoon stated, "The number of casualties and property damage continues to increase due to wildfires occurring across various regions nationwide." He expressed his condolences for the sacrifice of the firefighters who were extinguishing the wildfire in Sancheong, Gyeongnam, and extended deep sympathy to their bereaved families. He added, "We will spare no support to ensure the wildfire is extinguished as quickly as possible," and "We will work closely with the Ministry of the Interior and Safety to do our best in providing available firefighting equipment and personnel support."
