Kim Donggui, the Democratic Party candidate running in Constituency Na (Gwayeok, Namyang, Donggang, Daeseo) of Goheung-gun, Jeollanam-do in the April 2 by-election, has made a significant impact in the local community by magnanimously forgiving those who spread false information and defamed him, citing the greater good.
After securing the Democratic Party nomination, Kim was subjected to severe mudslinging and black propaganda by competitors and some opposing factions. In particular, false and baseless rumors such as "Kim committed dishonest acts to secure the nomination" were indiscriminately spread throughout the community by certain groups.
Believing that the fairness of the election had been seriously compromised, Kim's camp recently identified two individuals responsible for spreading these rumors and filed a complaint with the Jeonnam Provincial Police Agency on charges including defamation. However, Kim decided to withdraw the complaints in a bold move to prevent further discord in the local election and to practice politics of harmony and coexistence.
Kim stated, "Politics is not a battle of hatred, but a responsibility to protect the community," and added, "I made the decision to halt the legal action to prevent unnecessary conflicts in the community and to prioritize the unity of the residents."
Kim's magnanimous decision has been met with widespread praise not only within the local community but also among political circles.
A local political figure commented, "Withdrawing the complaint must not have been an easy decision for a candidate in the midst of an election," and added, "This attitude of unity has elevated the standards of local politics."
Kim emphasized, "Now is the time for the people to unite to put an end to the arrogance and incompetence of the traitor Yoon Sukyeol," and stressed, "This is not the time to be caught up in small disputes, but to focus on the greater fight for regime change and the restoration of democracy."
Meanwhile, Kim Donggui is appealing to voters with key pledges such as 'Putting Seniors First,' 'Creating Jobs for Youth,' welfare projects for the happiness of residents, plans for rural development such as 'Expanding Shellfish Farming in Deuknyangman and Yeojaman,' improving living conditions through 'Expanding Resident Convenience Facilities and Regional Development Projects,' and promoting tourism, culture, and sports through initiatives like 'Developing Sunset Tourism Resources.'
