Apple has been sued as the integration of core artificial intelligence (AI) features into Apple devices such as the iPhone has been delayed. The lawsuit alleges that Apple falsely advertised the inclusion of these key AI features.
According to the US internet media Axios on the 21st (local time), iPhone users filed a lawsuit in the federal court of San Jose, California, claiming that Apple engaged in false advertising and unfair competition by promoting the AI system called 'Apple Intelligence.'
In the lawsuit represented by the law firm Clarkson, it was stated, "Apple's advertisements, widely disseminated through the internet, TV, and other media, created a clear and reasonable expectation among consumers that they would be able to use innovative features upon the iPhone's release." It added, "Apple persuaded consumers to upgrade at premium prices and sought to differentiate itself from competitors in the AI arms race through these claims."
The lawsuit further pointed out, "Contrary to Apple's claims, the product's Apple Intelligence features were significantly limited or not provided at all," and "Consumers were misled about the actual usefulness and performance of the product." It emphasized, "Worse still, Apple promoted the product based on exaggerated AI features, inducing consumers to purchase devices with non-existent or grossly distorted functionalities."
Apple introduced Siri, an AI voice assistant capable of more natural conversations, last year. Next month, Apple planned to incorporate one of Siri's core AI features, the 'more personalized' function. However, Apple recently announced that this feature is expected to be released next year, delaying its launch. Apple had previously posted advertisements promoting this feature.
Users argued, "Although the advertisement was recently removed from YouTube, similar false claims that began last summer have not disappeared, and Apple has taken no measures to provide appropriate remedies to consumers harmed by the company's widespread deception."
