"Democratic Party Needs Courage to Exercise Restraint"
"Must Carefully Consider the Consequences of Impeaching the Economic Commander-in-Chief"
Former Prime Minister Kim Boo-kyum criticized the Democratic Party's proposal to impeach Choi Sang-mok, Acting Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance (hereinafter Acting Minister), calling it a "reckless decision."
On the 21st, former Prime Minister Kim posted on his Facebook under the title "The Democratic Party needs the courage to exercise restraint," conveying this message. Kim explained the situation, saying, "The practical benefits are minimal, and public anxiety is increasing," and "The previous impeachment cases have been consecutively dismissed, leading to negative public opinion, and the impeachment trial verdict for Prime Minister Han Duck-soo is also imminent."
He stated, "Acting Minister Choi's attitude of ignoring the Constitutional Court's decision is highly inappropriate," but added, "Nevertheless, our Democratic Party must carefully consider the consequences that pushing for the impeachment of the economic commander-in-chief during an already difficult economic period could bring."
Former Prime Minister Kim said, "Impeachment against cabinet members should not be used as a means of venting frustration," and warned, "The Democratic Party must deeply remember that the inappropriate remark telling them to 'be careful' followed by a reckless push for impeachment could lead to a loss of public trust."
He continued, "Our Democratic Party has a solemn responsibility to lead the political situation stably with a resolute will to uphold democratic constitutional order and the courage to exercise restraint, thereby resolving political turmoil," emphasizing, "The public and future generations are watching."
The Democratic Party and five opposition parties submitted the impeachment proposal against Acting Minister Choi to the National Assembly's main building legislative affairs office at 2 p.m. on the same day.
