Lee Yeon Appointed as Secretary General of Gwangju Archery Tournament Organizing Committee

Extensive Experience in Planning and Managing Major International Events
Regarded as the Right Person for the Successful Hosting of the Championships

Lee Yeon Appointed as Secretary General of Gwangju Archery Tournament Organizing Committee Lee Yeon, Executive Director of the Organizing Committee for the Gwangju 2025 World Archery Championships.

The city of Gwangju announced on the 21st that Lee Yeon, former Secretary General of the Gwangju City Council, has been appointed as the Secretary General of the Organizing Committee for the '2025 World (Para) Archery Championships'.


Lee Yeon, the newly appointed Secretary General, will oversee all operations of the committee's secretariat. He will be responsible for key tasks to ensure the successful hosting of the event, including establishing operational strategies, supporting venues and athletes, and promoting a sustainable and eco-friendly tournament.


Secretary General Lee has served in public office for 41 years, including at the Gwangju City Government and the Ministry of the Interior and Safety. He has held major positions such as Director of Sports Promotion, Director of Culture and Tourism Policy, Director of Autonomous Administration, and Secretary General of the City Council. He is highly respected in the public sector for his outstanding work abilities and gentle leadership.


He has successfully managed major projects in Gwangju, such as the establishment of the city crematorium, park cemetery, and landfill, the inaugural Gwangju Biennale, the construction of Kia Champions Field, the first-ever national Para Sports Center, and the founding of Gwangju FC. With his extensive experience in planning and operating large-scale international events, he is considered the right person to lead this championship to success.


Secretary General Lee stated, "As this is a historic international event where, for the first time in Korea, the World Championships for both para and non-para athletes will be held simultaneously, we will do our utmost to ensure that not only the participating athletes but also all Gwangju citizens can enjoy the event safely."


Meanwhile, the Gwangju 2025 Hyundai World Archery Championships, under the slogan 'The Echo of Peace,' will be held for eight days from September 5 to 12 at four venues, including the Gwangju International Archery Center and the May 18 Democratic Plaza. More than 900 athletes and officials from over 90 countries will participate. In addition, the 'Gwangju 2025 World Para Archery Championships,' with around 400 participants from over 50 countries, will take place from September 22 to 28.
