UNESCO World Heritage Site: Exploring the History of Goyang Seosamneung

Hanyang Country Club was founded in 1954 and opened in September 1964. It is a living witness to the history of Korean golf courses. It is the oldest golf course in Korea. It was established in a 560,000-pyeong (approximately 1.85 million ㎡) pine forest. The 1986 Seoul Asian Games were held here. It is a true tournament course worthy of hosting international competitions. It has served as a foundation for Korean golf to grow to a world-class level.

◆EnjoyGO= Located in the pine forest at the foot of Seosamneung in Goyang-si, Gyeonggi-do. The hilly terrain is preserved, making it gentle. It requires comfortable yet precise play. The new course features a harmonious blend of dense old pines and red pines. It inspires a sense of challenge. It is a difficult course preferred by tour players and top amateurs. The old course has a well-balanced mix of uphill and downhill slopes. Although the total length is not long, good short game skills are needed to achieve a satisfying score.

Hanyang Country Club is located 30 minutes from the center of Seoul. It is a golf course within the city. It boasts a natural geographical advantage. The clear view of the distinct Bukhansan Mountain in the distance, along with the old pine trees and well-maintained landscaping, leaves a strong impression. It is the best healing space where you can enjoy fresh air and beautiful scenery.

◆EatGO= The clubhouse, designed with a European mountain lodge concept, holds the breath of history. It is a comfortable place where you can share tournaments while overlooking the field with your loved ones. In the large dining hall, you can enjoy high-quality cuisine with the best service. Seasonal special menus are offered. You can taste meals prepared with the care of home-cooked food.

For breakfast, there is galbit-sal (beef rib meat) and cabbage hangover soup, minari (water dropwort) and clam soup, and Jeju-style abalone porridge. For lunch and dinner, you can enjoy Cantonese-style yusanseul (braised seafood and vegetables) rice bowl, sirloin cutlet curry, salmon steak, and cream pasta. There are also set menus such as Jirisan black pork kimchi hot pot, spicy flower crab and sablefish stew, and special seafood hot pot. At the shaded rest area, you can relieve fatigue and enjoy light meals and beverage services.

◆SeeGO= The UNESCO World Cultural Heritage site, Goyang Seosamneung, is located in Deogyang-gu, Goyang-si, Gyeonggi-do. It means the three tombs located in the west. It is the second largest royal tomb cluster after Seooreung among Joseon Dynasty royal tombs. It is a collective name for the Joseon-era Heereung, Hyoreung, and Yereung tombs. It once covered a vast area of 4.3 million ㎡ (about 1.3 million pyeong), but now it is divided into several parts, with 230,000 ㎡ (about 70,000 pyeong) remaining. It was designated as Historic Site No. 200 in 1970.

Goyang Wondang Ranch is located near Seosamneung. The ranch covers an area of 360,000 ㎡ (about 108,900 pyeong). There is a separate observatory and space where you can see peaceful scenes of horses running freely. It is famous as a date and outing course. It has gained popularity as a filming location for dramas and movies. It served as the backdrop for dramas such as City Hall, Coffee Prince 1st Shop, Legend of Ambition, Spring Day, and Sandglass.
