Osan-si Promotes Construction of 'Family Library' in Osan Miniature Village

Creating a Cultural Belt Linking Library, Exhibition, and Park

Osan City in Gyeonggi-do is building a 'Family Library' that combines reading and relaxation within the 'Osan Miniature Village' in Naesammi-dong. The city plans to develop the new library as a complex cultural space linked with the exhibition space and park of the Miniature Village.

The library will be located in the lawn plaza within the Miniature Village. It will be constructed with a total floor area of 3,060㎡, and the project is expected to cost around 10 billion KRW. The city aims to start the project this year and open the library in 2028.

The library will be designed as an open cultural space that families can enjoy together, beyond just a simple reading area. Inside, it will include ▲a reference room ▲a cultural education space ▲a digital resource room ▲office spaces, planned as areas where citizens can freely use and relax.

The city is also promoting the creation of a 'cultural belt' linking the library and the Miniature Village. To this end, the exhibition space of the Miniature Village is being reconsidered to provide more diverse content beyond the existing models, including ▲comics ▲characters ▲figures ▲plastic models. There are also discussions about creating a sculpture park and a cultural and sports park by utilizing a nearby retention basin on the library site.

On the 25th, the city will hold a meeting with related organizations and experts to discuss specific plans for building the Family Library and establishing the cultural belt. Osan Mayor Ikwon Jae said, "The Family Library will be a space where family units of citizens can enjoy books and culture together," adding, "We will thoroughly prepare so that it can serve as a cultural hub for the region."
