According to Goyang Special City, Gyeonggi Province, on the 21st, the Smart City Summit is the largest smart city event in Asia held annually in Taiwan. It is a gathering where city officials, major companies, and experts from around the world share the latest technologies and policies in the smart city field. This year, under the theme of ‘Digital and Green Transformation,’ the event is held simultaneously in the capitals Taipei and Kaohsiung.

At the Smart City Digital Forum session titled ‘Strengthening Cities with AI - Opening a New Era through AI’ held after the opening ceremony, Mayor Lee shared Goyang City's smart city policies and discussed the innovative changes that AI and digital twin technologies will bring to urban planning, infrastructure management, and administrative service delivery methods.

In his session presentation, Mayor Lee Dong-hwan stated, “Smart cities are no longer a distant future but a reality and an essential element for urban sustainability and improving quality of life,” introducing Goyang City's hub-type smart city services.

The mayor explained, “Goyang City utilizes digital twin services that replicate real-world spaces into digital spaces for ground subsidence prediction, river flooding, and Urban Air Mobility (UAM) demonstrations. Additionally, based on real-time data, we provide traffic optimization services such as traffic analysis, crowd congestion detection, and commercial demand forecasting. We have also established a drone valley service where drones are dispatched from the nearest station to respond swiftly in case of disasters or emergencies.”

He continued, “We are also promoting autonomous bus services combined with demand-responsive transport, a smart data platform that can enhance work efficiency and citizen satisfaction, and the establishment of intelligent smart administrative services. By applying AI and digital twin technologies across various fields, we will create a sustainable city and continue to innovate as a leading global smart city.”

Afterwards, Mayor Lee Dong-hwan personally toured the Smart City Summit exhibition hall, confirmed the latest cases integrating AI and digital twin technologies, and reviewed the possibility of introducing advanced technologies and linking them with Goyang City's smart city strategies.
