Seasonal Flower Beds, Street Pots, and Hanging Baskets to Be Planted Through November

"Walk Only on Flower Paths All Year Round"... Songpa-gu Begins Creating Spring Flower Paths Flowers on the median strip of Olympic-ro

Welcoming the budding spring of March, Songpa-gu (Mayor Seo Gang-seok) is renovating major local streets such as Olympic-ro and Songpa-daero into bright flower paths that invite walking.

Every year from March to November, the district carries out the 'Four Seasons Flower Path Creation Project' throughout the area. This project maintains street flower beds each season so that residents can experience seasonal changes through flowers. Green garden trees, landscaping stones, perennial flowers, and seasonally vibrant annual flowers are harmoniously planted like a garden.

This year as well, the district plans to color various parts of the city with colorful flowers each season, focusing on major roads in the area. For the upcoming spring, bright representative varieties such as lupinus, anise hyssop, daisies, violas, poppies, and daffodils have been prepared.

First, starting from mid-March, a total of 2,000m² of flower beds will be created beginning in front of the district office. The central medians along approximately 3.5 km of Olympic-ro from Sports Complex Station to Mongchontoseong Station, as well as traffic islands at Jamsil Station intersection and Garak Market Station intersection, will be decorated with flowers.

In April, about 700 hanging flower pots will be installed along eight major roads including Ogeum-ro and Baekjegobun-ro. To allow more residents to enjoy the spring atmosphere, these will be densely placed near subway stations with wide roads and heavy foot traffic to maximize the effect. Large flower pots adding to the spring ambiance will also be placed at key locations such as the Jamsil Hosugyo Observation Rest Area.

Additionally, on the 19th, the district created a new canola flower attraction around Cheongnyonggyo Bridge on Seongnaecheon Stream (near Olympic Park North Gate 2). Centered on the Songpa-gu Facilities Management Corporation, residents personally sowed 20kg of canola flower seeds and will continue to plant additional seeds annually to maintain the scenery. It is expected that soon a bright yellow canola flower carpet covering about 3,300 pyeong (approx. 10,900 m²) will decorate the waterside of Seongnaecheon.

Meanwhile, aiming to create a garden city blooming all year round, the district is also accelerating its key project, the 'Songpa-daero Premium Street Creation Project.' The plan is to widen sidewalks along the 1.5 km section from Seokchon Lake to Garak Market and create a cherry blossom path, connecting it into a single street garden that people want to walk through.

Seo Gang-seok, Mayor of Songpa-gu, said, “We hope residents will feel the approaching spring by strolling along the brightly blooming flower paths,” and added, “We will provide greenery and diverse attractions in residents’ daily lives to transform into an attractive street garden city.”
