Democratic Party: "The Husband Tried to Kill Representative Lee Jae-myung... 'A Perfectly Matched Couple'"
Innovation Party: "'Yoon-Geonhee' Indifferent to Life or Death to Avoid Arrest"
After the arrest of President Yoon Suk-yeol, the opposition party urged a thorough investigation, calling it "unthinkable" that First Lady Kim Geon-hee was caught by the police criticizing the Presidential Security Service while mentioning the use of firearms.
The Democratic Party's 'Myeong Taegyun Gate Truth Investigation Team' (led by Seo Young-kyo) held a press conference at the National Assembly on the same day, criticizing, "Yoon Suk-yeol and Kim Geon-hee not only declared martial law but also tried to shoot to avoid arrest."
The investigation team stated, "Kim Geon-hee's shocking remarks recall the recently reported 3,114 body bags and corpse bags purchased by the army before the martial law," adding, "If Yoon Suk-yeol's coup had succeeded, those corpse bags would have actually been used. It sends chills down the spine."
Democratic Party spokesperson Ahn Gwi-ryeong said in a written briefing, "Not only did they obstruct law enforcement, but now they are criticizing that firearms were not used, making one wonder if these words came from terrorists," and pointed out, "The husband tried to kill Representative Lee Jae-myung, and the wife wants to shoot?truly a matching couple."
She continued, "Such a dangerously reckless couple is struggling to escape the judgment of the law, shaking the rule of law in the Republic of Korea to its core," and argued, "Removing Yoon Suk-yeol from office and bringing him to justice is the only way to normalize Korea."
Yoon Jae-gwan, spokesperson for the Party for National Innovation, released a statement titled 'Where is the Constitution for the ‘Yoon-Geonhee’ couple who urged the use of firearms?' saying, "Yoon Suk-yeol even urged the Presidential Security Service to kill to prevent the execution of the arrest warrant, and Kim Geon-hee scolded the security personnel, whom she treated like soldiers, for not attempting murder. The public is shocked and outraged."
Spokesperson Yoon criticized, "As expected of Yoon-Geonhee. The two are a terrifying united front who do not care whether people live or die if it means avoiding their arrest, going beyond violence."
He added, "The instincts of the asphalt far-right are the same," pointing out, "They do not hesitate to use violence against opposition party lawmakers in broad daylight, disregarding the many eyes watching. Such behavior is hard to do recklessly without the belief that they will remain unpunished."
He further stated, "The reason ordinary sensible citizens cannot coexist with Yoon-Geonhee and the asphalt far-right is clear," emphasizing, "If we forgive those who dream not only of violence but also of murder, Korea will become a jungle where violence and killing are everyday occurrences."
Addressing the Constitutional Court, he said, "The sovereign people ask the Constitutional Court: where is the Constitution for this horrific Yoon-Geonhee couple?" and warned, "If even the Constitution kneels before these two, how can the Korean community sustain itself? If the traitor Yoon Suk-yeol returns, it would be no different from issuing them a ‘license for rebellion’ and a ‘license to kill’," urging a swift impeachment ruling against President Yoon.
According to police investigation results, on January 15 of this year, after the second arrest warrant for President Yoon was executed, First Lady Kim reportedly told a Presidential Security Service staff member, "What’s the point of carrying a gun? It’s to prevent things like that," and "If it were up to me, I would shoot Representative Lee Jae-myung now and want to die myself." The Presidential Office responded by calling these claims "based on exaggerated hearsay" and stated they are "groundless."
