Currently, more than half of fatalities in the construction industry occur during processes managed by specialized construction companies, most of which are small businesses with fewer than 10 employees (about 70%). These companies are experiencing difficulties in establishing self-regulatory prevention systems.

To actively support these challenges, the Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency launched the Safety and Health Academy to raise the level of safety awareness among specialized construction companies and to help establish and maintain self-regulatory prevention systems.

Representatives of specialized construction companies who applied for the academy will participate in a variety of training courses over four weeks, including risk assessment, establishment and implementation of safety and health management systems, and site visits to major construction companies. The academy will be conducted in an interactive manner, encouraging participation through discussions, practical exercises, and presentations, rather than one-way lectures.

Through the operation of this academy, the Busan Regional Headquarters of the Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency provided customized training to specialized construction companies that are willing to reduce fatal accidents but face difficulties in implementation, thereby contributing to the reduction of fatal construction accidents in the region.
