Inspection Needed for Sewage Pipes and Basement Waste Burial at Sports Center
Despite being a newly constructed building, the Sangmu National Sports Center in Seo-gu, Gwangju has been plagued by mold and foul odors in its shower rooms for nearly a year, highlighting the urgent need for fundamental improvements.
Kim Taejin, a Seo-gu council member from Gwangju (Progressive Party), stated during a five-minute free speech at the 329th temporary session's first plenary meeting on the 20th that fundamental measures are desperately needed to address the foul odor issue in the Sangmu National Sports Center's shower rooms.

Kim said, "The issue of foul odors in the Sangmu National Sports Center's shower rooms has been one of the continuously raised complaints since last year," adding, "However, each time, only makeshift solutions such as intensive 'bleach' cleaning have been repeated."
He further stated, "We have continuously pointed out the inconveniences faced by residents using the Sangmu National Sports Center, but no improvements have been made," and added, "A fundamental solution must be established through a comprehensive inspection of the sewage pipes and the condition of waste burial in the center's basement, among other aspects."
Meanwhile, last year, the Sangmu National Sports Center had an average of 16,729 users per month.
