Health Functional Foods Can Be Purchased in Small Portions and Combinations After Consulting Experts

From now on, when consumers purchase health functional foods, they will be able to choose the products they want and buy the desired amount by considering their health status and lifestyle habits.

The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety announced on the 20th that, with the revision of the "Enforcement Rules of the Health Functional Foods Act," it will implement the "Customized Health Functional Foods System," which includes these provisions.

Customized health functional foods refer to a system where consumers receive direct consultation from a customized health functional foods manager who holds professional qualifications such as pharmacist or nutritionist, and then the business operator subdivides and combines the necessary health functional foods to sell to the respective consumer.

The business operator must subdivide and combine the health functional foods so that the content of each functional ingredient and nutritional component does not exceed the daily intake amount, and must not mix products or ingredients approved as pharmaceuticals. In addition, all labeling information such as the product name, functional ingredient names, daily intake amount, and intake method of the subdivided and combined health functional foods provided to the consumer must be provided.

Consumers should also check the intake amount, intake method, and precautions indicated on the health functional foods before consumption and be careful not to overconsume.

The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety expects that the introduction of the customized health functional foods system will improve the convenience and economic efficiency of purchasing health functional foods.

An official from the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety said, "This system will meet the demands of consumers who have a high interest in quality of life and health management and will help create a proper consumption environment for health functional foods."
