White House Spokesperson: "Abuse of Power by Democratic Activist Judge"
The White House stated that it will "continue large-scale deportations" of illegal immigrant criminals by applying the "Adversary Country Nationals Act (AEA)" despite court injunctions against deporting them by flight.
White House Press Secretary Caroline Levitt said during a briefing on the 19th (local time) in response to a question asking, "Will flights to El Salvador (a deportation destination for illegal immigrants) continue while the case is still being heard in court?" that "there are no specially planned flights," but added that they will continue deportations.
Earlier, on the 15th, Judge James Boasberg of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia ordered a halt to the Trump administration's attempt to deport hundreds of Venezuelan nationals, labeled as members of criminal organizations, to El Salvador, and instructed that even if deportation flights had already taken off, they should be returned to the U.S.
Despite this ruling, the Trump administration continued deporting immigrants to El Salvador and claimed that Judge Boasberg should be impeached. In response, Chief Justice John Roberts issued a statement rejecting the impeachment claims as inappropriate, escalating the conflict between the executive branch and the judiciary.
Levitt said, "President Trump has clearly stated that the judge should be impeached and has also expressed great respect for Chief Justice Roberts," adding, "President Trump believes that the Supreme Court is responsible for controlling judges."
Regarding Judge Boasberg’s appointment during former President Barack Obama's administration, she claimed, "60% of injunctions issued this century by partisan judicial activists have been against President Trump, and 92% of those were issued by Democratic judges. This clearly shows a coordinated effort by the left to oppose President Trump and to impose or delay prohibitions on his policies."
Levitt emphasized the legitimacy of impeachment claims against Judge Boasberg, stating, "He is trying to say that the president does not have the executive authority to deport foreign terrorists from U.S. soil. This is a serious abuse of judicial power. He is a Democratic activist. His wife has donated more than $10,000 to the Democratic Party, and he has consistently despised President Trump's policies. This is unacceptable."
While stating that "we will continue to comply with the court's orders," Levitt also said, "The White House counsel and the Department of Justice are studying this issue and will appeal. Even if it has to go to the Supreme Court, we know we will win."
