Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs to Host Korean Food Promotion Event and Workshop on the 25th
The world-renowned culinary festival, '2025 Asia's 50 Best Restaurants,' will be held in Seoul for the second consecutive year.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and the Seoul Metropolitan Government announced on the 20th that the 2025 Asia's 50 Best Restaurants will take place in Seoul from the 22nd to the 26th.
Known as the Academy Awards of the culinary world, Asia's 50 Best Restaurants is an annual awards ceremony that announces the top 50 restaurants in the Asia region. Alongside the main event, the awards ceremony, the 'Best 50 Dialogue' will feature chefs, food and beverage (F&B) industry professionals, and media sharing their views on key topics attracting attention in the culinary industry. The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs expects strong interest from overseas attendees in Korean cuisine and culture, as Asia's 50 Best Restaurants will be held domestically for the second consecutive year following 2024.
Among the restaurants ranked 51st to 100th in the Asia region, announced prior to the awards ceremony, six Korean restaurants were selected: Born and Bread (51st), Solbam (55th), Swaniye (57th), Alaf Prima (61st), Kwonsooksoo (62nd), and Jungsikdang (90th). A ministry official stated, "This year, Korean restaurant Mingles earned three Michelin stars, and various Korean restaurants have been listed in the Michelin Guide, reflecting the world's growing interest in Korean cuisine. We expect that many Korean restaurants will also be included in the top 50 announced at this awards ceremony."
To amplify the excitement of the 2025 Asia's 50 Best Restaurants and promote Korean cuisine, which has become a global culinary trend, the ministry will hold a nationwide Korean food promotional event and Korean food workshop on the 25th at 'Korea House.' The event will feature a Korean food talk concert and Korean food market, offering the general public an opportunity to experience the diverse charms of Korean cuisine established in the global market and enjoy gourmet experiences. At the Korean food talk concert, Chef Son Jong-won of Itanic Garden, ranked 64th in the 2024 Asia's 50 Best Restaurants, will share insights on the globalization potential of Korean cuisine. The Korean food market will showcase premium Korean dishes paired with traditional liquors, created through collaboration among chefs famous for appearing on the cooking show Black and White Chef: Kim Do-yoon (Yoon Seoul), Jo Seo-hyung (Euljiro Jewelry), and Oh Jun-tak (Namyeongtak).
Joo Won-cheol, Director of Food Industry Policy at the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, said, "We hope this Asia's 50 Best Restaurants event will become a festival where more people enjoy Korean cuisine. We will spare no effort to promote Korean food worldwide and support the growth of the dining industry."
