On the 19th (local time), President Trump posted on the social networking service (SNS) Truth Social, "I just finished a very good call with President Zelensky," adding, "The call lasted about an hour."
He continued, "Most of the discussion was based on the call I had with Russian President Vladimir Putin the day before, coordinating the requests and needs of Russia and Ukraine." He also emphasized that negotiations for ending the war are "progressing very smoothly."
According to briefing materials provided to the media by U.S. Secretary of State Mike Rubio and White House National Security Advisor Mike Waltz, President Trump detailed the content and key points of his conversation with President Putin during the call. The two leaders agreed during the call that "both countries will continue to cooperate to end the war and that lasting peace can be achieved under President Trump's leadership," Rubio and Waltz stated.
Furthermore, the two leaders reviewed the situation in Kursk, a major battleground between Russia and Ukraine, and agreed to closely share defense intelligence as the situation worsens. This agreement between President Trump and President Zelensky rejects President Putin's demand made the previous day to halt military support and intelligence sharing with Ukraine.
During the call, the two leaders also agreed on a partial ceasefire in the energy sector, agreeing that this partial ceasefire could be the first step toward a complete end to the war and security guarantees. President Zelensky reaffirmed his commitment to a full ceasefire, Rubio and Waltz said.
Additionally, President Zelensky requested additional air defense systems from President Trump, particularly the Patriot missile system. In response, President Trump agreed to cooperate with President Zelensky to find systems available in Europe, Rubio and others reported.
President Trump inquired about children who were kidnapped or went missing during the war in Russia, and promised President Zelensky that both sides would work closely to ensure these children can return home.
President Trump also mentioned Ukraine's power supply network and nuclear power plants during the call. He said, "The U.S. can be of great help in operating nuclear power plants based on our expertise in power and utilities." Regarding this, Rubio and others explained, "U.S. ownership of nuclear power plants is the best way to protect Ukraine's infrastructure and support its energy infrastructure."
Rubio and others stated, "Both sides agreed that all parties must continue efforts to maintain the ceasefire agreement," adding, "President Trump instructed to resolve technical issues related to implementing and expanding the partial ceasefire."
For the ceasefire agreement, the U.S. and Russia plan to meet in Saudi Arabia to discuss expanding the partial ceasefire in the energy sector to a maritime ceasefire in the Black Sea. This follows the agreement reached during the call between President Trump and President Putin the previous day, where U.S. and Russian working-level teams agreed to continue discussions. It is interpreted as the U.S. leading ceasefire negotiations by mediating both sides at the same location.
Regarding the call between President Trump and President Zelensky, White House spokesperson Caroline Levitt evaluated in a briefing that "we are closer to peace than ever before." On the mineral agreement being pursued between the U.S. and Ukraine, Levitt said, "Right now, we are focusing on the peace agreement beyond the mineral agreement."
