On the 19th, Hanwha Ocean announced that it held the official launch event of ‘Empowering Geoje’ at the Happiness Hall of the Geoje plant.

The launch ceremony was attended by key local figures including Seo Il-jun, National Assembly member of Geoje City, Jung Seok-won, Acting Mayor of Geoje, Shin Geum-ja, Chairperson of the Geoje City Council, as well as about 300 Hanwha Ocean executives and employees including CEO Kim Hee-chul.

Through ‘Empowering Geoje,’ Hanwha Ocean plans to actively carry out activities that fulfill corporate social responsibility and promote the co-growth of the Geoje region. As the slogan of ‘Empowering Geoje’ states, the company aims to realize the vision of regional coexistence: ‘Growing together with the region, hope for win-win, going far together.’

‘Empowering Geoje’ will take the lead in discussing and improving major issues in the Geoje area with various institutions and organizations. To this end, Hanwha Ocean signed a mutual agreement (MOU) on the same day with 36 key administrative agencies, social welfare organizations, and civic groups in the area to promote regional economic revitalization, marine environment protection and improvement, and strengthening of the social safety net system.

After signing the MOU, ‘Empowering Geoje’ plans to implement various mid- to long-term programs across three main areas: programs for regional economic development and vitality, programs for environmental protection and improvement, and programs for building a social safety net to enhance safety and welfare.

On the same day, Hanwha Ocean also launched the ‘Ocean Volunteer Corps.’ Executives and employees of Hanwha Ocean’s Geoje plant plan to regularly and continuously operate company-led social volunteer programs. They will also communicate with local volunteer organizations and carry out volunteer activities needed in the region together.

CEO Kim Hee-chul said, “If it were not for the people of Geoje City who supported and encouraged the company until achieving management normalization, the current Hanwha Ocean would not exist.” He added, “Hanwha Ocean and local institutions and organizations will unite through ‘Empowering Geoje’ to start regional win-win activities and build a foundation for co-growth with Geoje City in the future.”
