Policy Consideration Needed for Balanced Regional Development
Yeoncheon-gun, Gyeonggi Province (Governor Kim Deok-hyun) announced on the 19th that it held the launching ceremony of the Pan-Citizen Promotion Committee (hereinafter referred to as the Pan-Committee) for attracting the Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly Legislative Training Institute at the Yeoncheon-gun Office large conference room.

At the launching ceremony, 25 representatives from private organizations attended, including Jeong Nam-hoon, co-representative and chairman of the Korea Senior Citizens Association Yeoncheon Branch, and Kim Kyung-sik, chairman of the Yeoncheon-gun Council of the Barun Living Movement, who served as the secretariat chief.
In his greeting, Representative Jeong Nam-hoon said, “If the Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly Legislative Training Institute is established in Yeoncheon, it will be an important case that not only resolves regional imbalances but also lays the foundation for autonomous growth in border areas like Yeoncheon.” He urged active support and participation from joint committee members of each organization at the private level for the attraction.
Following this, Yeoncheon-gun Governor Kim Deok-hyun expressed in his encouragement speech, “I appreciate the efforts of local organization leaders who voluntarily participate in local community policy issues,” and stated, “Yeoncheon-gun is an optimal location that can maximize educational effects through policy research, education, and healing, as it is a city rich in diversity with a natural environment shining as a UNESCO dual World Heritage site and cultural and historical assets spanning from prehistoric times to the modern era.”
Kim Mi-kyung, Chairperson of the Yeoncheon County Council, said, “Yeoncheon-gun is a field that holds various aspects of people’s livelihoods, from overlapping regulations to the DMZ with its pristine natural environment,” and added, “We will work together with residents to provide unwavering policy support so that the Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly Legislative Training Institute can lead local autonomy through breathing policy development and practical education.”
At the launching ceremony, a resolution expressing the determination of major social organization leaders to attract the Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly Legislative Training Institute to Yeoncheon-gun was adopted, and it was agreed to prepare a signature book to express the cooperation will of major organization leaders and to promote activities by each organization.
A Pan-Committee official stated, “The attraction of the Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly Legislative Training Institute is an important opportunity for the future development of Yeoncheon-gun, and we ask for the interest and support of local residents.”
Meanwhile, the Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly plans to select the establishment site through a public contest, receiving proposals for optimal sites from each city and county by the 31st, and finalizing the site in May.
