Served as Principal Conductor of the Ansan City Korean Traditional Orchestra

The city of Daejeon announced on the 19th that it has appointed Lim Sangkyu (52), former principal conductor of the Ansan City Korean Traditional Orchestra, as the new artistic director and conductor of the Daejeon Yeonjeong Korean Traditional Orchestra.
Director Lim majored in Korean traditional music conducting at Chung-Ang University and its graduate school, and completed the conducting course at the Bartok International Seminar in Hungary. He began his career in 1998 as a member of the National Gugak Orchestra, then served as assistant conductor of the Central Gugak Orchestra, and from 2003 worked as assistant and principal conductor of the Ansan City Korean Traditional Orchestra for over 20 years.
The new artistic director Lim stated, "It is a great honor to join the Daejeon Yeonjeong Korean Traditional Orchestra, which boasts a long history and tradition. Based on the musical capabilities and experience I have accumulated, I will work with the members to develop performances and content that represent Daejeon and further elevate the orchestra's status."
Lee Jangwoo, Mayor of Daejeon, said, "I hope you will do your utmost to enhance the orchestra's reputation at events such as this year's European tour, based on communication with the members and musical leadership, and to widely promote the beauty of our traditional Korean music both at home and abroad."
The term of office is two years, until March 18, 2027.
