Accelerating Preparations for Successful Event Operation
Ahead of April 6 Marathon
Yeongju City in Gyeongbuk is accelerating preparations for the '2025 Yeongju Sobaeksan Marathon,' which will be held on April 6.
This year's event has set a record with over 12,000 participants registered, the highest number ever. This is an increase of about 4,000 people compared to last year, attributed to word-of-mouth about the marathon course that runs through the beautiful scenery of Sobaeksan and around major cultural and tourist attractions, as well as the abundant local specialty foods provided during the event.
The city is making every effort to ensure the successful operation of the event by coordinating traffic control, strengthening pre-event cooperation with related organizations and volunteers, and maintaining the marathon course. Additionally, thorough preparations such as environmental clean-up, lane painting, and a national cleanliness campaign will continue until the day of the event.
To attract participants, the city is actively promoting the event at marathon competitions held in other regions and is holding frequent working-level meetings to ensure perfect preparation.
On the day of the event, food booths featuring local specialties will be operated, offering a variety of dishes such as banquet noodles, Yeongju Korean beef and pork bulgogi, sweet potato bread, cheese, Yeongju apples, and Makgeolli. These abundant food offerings have received enthusiastic responses from participants and their families every year.
Lee Jaehoon, acting mayor of Yeongju, said, "As this is a large-scale event with participants from all over the country, we will do our best to prepare thoroughly and ensure smooth proceedings," and added, "We ask for citizens' active cooperation with traffic control on the marathon course to ensure a safe and successful event."
The 2025 Yeongju Sobaeksan Marathon will kick off at 9:30 a.m. on April 6 at Yeongju Citizen Sports Complex with the start of the full course. All participants will receive Yeongju specialty products, souvenirs, and plenty of food, and free shuttle buses will be operated for the convenience of participants coming from Seoul, Incheon, Daegu, Busan, Daejeon, Ulsan, and other cities.
