Korean and UK Experts Seek Development Direction for Next-Generation Nuclear Technology and International Cooperation
The National Academy of Engineering of Korea (NAEK) and the Royal Academy of Engineering (RAEng) of the United Kingdom held the "2025 Korea-UK Clean Energy Workshop" on the 19th at the Chosun Hotel in Seoul, where nuclear experts from Korea and the UK discussed the development direction of next-generation nuclear technology and international cooperation measures.
Dr. Sue Ion, Honorary Chair of the National Nuclear Technology Academy, and Jongwoo Kim, Executive Director of Doosan Enerbility (Head of SMR Business Development), delivered keynote speeches. Professors Tim Abram from the University of Manchester and Beomjin Jeong from Kyung Hee University presented on nuclear policies and challenges in Korea and the UK.
This workshop served as an opportunity for Korea and the UK to build a close network in nuclear technology and policy fields and to strengthen joint research and industrial cooperation. In particular, the two countries engaged in in-depth discussions on ways to create synergy in next-generation reactor development, nuclear power plant decommissioning and waste management, and nuclear workforce training.
Yoon Euijun, President of the National Academy of Engineering of Korea, stated, "I hope today's discussions will lead to tangible projects and that Korea and the UK will jointly create a sustainable clean energy future."
