Construction Begins in May, Completion Next Year
Operation Targeted for 2027
The Metropolitan Transport Committee of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced on the 19th that it has approved the implementation plan for Phase 1 (Sanseong-daero section) of the metropolitan trunk bus rapid transit (BRT) construction project between Seongnam and Bokjeong. Construction is scheduled to begin in May, with completion planned for the first half of 2026 and operation starting in 2027.

This project is a public transportation improvement initiative connecting a total distance of 10.2 km from Namhansanseong in Seongnam City to Bokjeong Station in Seoul. The approved Phase 1 section (5.2 km) extends from Moran Station in Seongnam to the Namhansanseong Entrance in Yangji-dong. The core objectives are to enhance punctuality and improve the traffic environment. This includes building dedicated bus lanes, constructing or reorganizing bus stops, and revising the traffic signal operation system at intersections. The total budget for Phase 1 is 26.8 billion KRW.
The BRT route passes through Jangheung Sports Complex Entrance, Dandae Five-way Intersection Station, Court and Prosecutor's Office, and Eulji University. A total of 33 bus stops will be established. Among these, 16 will be newly built central bus stops, while the remaining 17 will utilize existing curbside stops.
Once this BRT is completed, travel time from Moran Station to Namhansanseong Entrance will be reduced from the current 25 minutes to 15 minutes, cutting 10 minutes. The average travel speed is expected to increase from 12.4 km/h to 19.9 km/h, approximately 7.5 km/h faster.

Following Phase 1, the Metropolitan Transport Committee plans to smoothly proceed with Phase 2 (Seongnam-daero section, 5.0 km) to enhance connectivity with Seoul and provide stable public transportation services.
Kang Hee-eop, Chairman of the Metropolitan Transport Committee, stated, "The Seongnam-Bokjeong metropolitan BRT construction project is an important turning point to improve transportation convenience for local residents and establish a public transportation-centered urban traffic system. We will also ensure the smooth progress of Phase 2 to further strengthen mobility between Seongnam and Seoul."
The Metropolitan Transport Committee will closely monitor the progress of construction and continue to expand communication with local residents.
