"Respect for Dedication..." Why Did Lee Jun-seok Mention 'I Am Solo'?

Promise to Improve Regional Medical System
"Yoon Seok-yeol's Approach Only Worsens the Situation"

On the 15th, Lee said on social media (SNS), “Kwang-su, a contestant on ‘I Am Solo’ Season 25, is reportedly the only doctor working in Girin-myeon, Inje-gun, Gangwon Province,” adding, “He treats more than 100 patients a day on average and saw 26,000 patients last year alone. Despite suffering from overwork, he cannot leave the town because he is the only doctor there. I pay tribute to Kwang-su’s dedication.”

He continued, “As can be seen from Kwang-su’s story, the reality of regional healthcare is dire,” and explained, “Even when regional medical centers offer nearly 500 million won in annual salary, they cannot recruit specialists.”

“Ultimately, today’s regional healthcare system barely survives relying on the sacrifices of dedicated medical professionals like Kwang-su,” he said. “In this situation, Yoon Seok-yeol’s approach of threatening medical personnel as if they are targets and mindlessly increasing the number of doctors by 2,000, expecting a trickle-down effect to solve regional healthcare, has worsened the current situation.” He added, “Such intimidation and threats will only drive away remaining regional medical professionals like Kwang-su across the country.”

“I have been considering practical solutions such as adjusting regional additional fees and establishing major national and public treatment centers to create a medical system that does not rely solely on the sacrifices and dedication of people like Kwang-su,” he said. “I will present a society where Kwang-su does not have to worry about leaving Inje-gun.”

Kwang-su from Season 25 revealed on the broadcast on the 12th that he is a “private general practitioner,” stating, “I am the only doctor in Inje, so it is difficult to leave my post, and I can only date on weekends.” He said he treats more than 100 patients daily and saw 26,000 patients last year. His annual salary exceeds 500 million won.

Earlier, the Reform New Party’s election management committee announced that after the additional registration for the presidential primary candidates closed, Lee was the sole candidate. Whether Lee will be confirmed as the party’s presidential candidate will be decided through a member approval vote. The vote will be held over two days from the 16th to the 17th, and if the turnout exceeds 30% and a majority approves, Lee will be officially selected as the Reform New Party’s presidential candidate.
