The Jeju Fire Festival has been completely canceled due to strong winds.
The Jeju City Government announced on the 15th that, with a strong wind warning issued, all events scheduled for the second and third days of the Jeju Fire Festival have been canceled in consideration of safety at the venue. In the Saebyeoloreum area of Aewol-eup, Jeju City, where the festival was being held, a maximum instantaneous wind speed of 24.8 meters per second was recorded that day, causing tents and structures to collapse and event items to be blown away, resulting in a series of damages.
According to the safety management plan for the Fire Festival, Jeju City has regulations to cancel the event if the maximum instantaneous wind speed exceeds 20 meters per second. Accordingly, at 9:50 a.m. that day, an emergency situation assessment meeting was held, and it was decided to cancel all remaining events. A city official stated, "We had to inevitably cancel the event, prioritizing safety above all," and added, "We will promptly restore the festival facilities."

In particular, all events scheduled for the afternoon, including the digital fire-lighting performance 'Oreum Festival' and the finale concert, were canceled due to worsening weather conditions, leaving disappointment. The 'New Spring, New Hope Seedling Giveaway' event, which was supposed to take place on the third day at Saebyeoloreum, will instead be held on the 22nd at Jeju City Citizen Welfare Town.
Meanwhile, this year's Jeju Fire Festival was held as a digital performance instead of the traditional fire-lighting. At the opening ceremony, a digital firework display and media art show themed 'Light Instead of Fire' were showcased, presenting a new style of festival.
