Deployment of Fighter Jets and Tactical Measures
On the 15th, Russian military aircraft entered the Korean Air Defense Identification Zone (KADIZ), prompting a response from the South Korean military.
According to the Joint Chiefs of Staff, several Russian military aircraft sequentially entered the East Sea KADIZ around 9:20 a.m. that day, then soon exited to the east and north. During this process, there was no violation of airspace.
The military identified the Russian aircraft before they approached the KADIZ and deployed air force fighter jets, implementing tactical measures to prepare for any contingencies.
The Joint Chiefs stated, "After communication with the Russian side, it was confirmed that the purpose was training and there was no intention to violate airspace."

This was the first time in about four months that Russian military aircraft entered the KADIZ, following their entry alongside Chinese military aircraft in November last year before exiting.
The Air Defense Identification Zone is an area established to detect and respond early to military aircraft approaching a country's airspace, and it differs from the sovereign airspace under individual national jurisdiction.
However, it is an international practice for military aircraft to submit flight plans and notify their positions in advance when entering another country's Air Defense Identification Zone.
