Howard Lutnick, U.S. Secretary of Commerce, indicated that the reciprocal tariffs scheduled for the 2nd of next month could be imposed on all imported cars regardless of nationality, including those from Korea, Japan, and Germany.
On the 14th (local time), in an interview with Fox Business, Secretary Lutnick was asked whether the reciprocal tariffs, which President Donald Trump announced would be imposed globally on the 4th of next month, would affect cars coming from countries such as Korea, Japan, and Germany. He responded, "Wouldn't that be fair?"
He added, "If tariffs are to be imposed on cars imported from anywhere, then tariffs should be imposed on cars imported from everywhere."
Previously, President Trump had announced that reciprocal tariffs would be imposed globally starting from the 2nd of next month. Secretary Lutnick also stated regarding the forced sale of the U.S. business rights of China's video-sharing platform TikTok that President Trump would attempt to negotiate with TikTok according to the timing he deems appropriate.
