Expanded to Include University Graduates...
"Alleviating the Burden of Educational Expenses"
Iksan City in North Jeolla Province is promoting a 'Student Loan Interest Support Program'.
According to the city on the 14th, this program was established to alleviate the financial burden of tuition for university and graduate students. Starting this year, the program has been expanded to include not only current university (including those on leave of absence) and graduate students, but also university graduates within the past five years.
The support covers student loan interest incurred during the second semester of 2024, and applications can be submitted online through the city’s website from the 17th of this month until the 7th of next month.
Eligible applicants must have their registered address in Iksan as of the announcement date, the 17th, and must be university (including graduate) students or university graduates within five years who have received student loans from the Korea Student Aid Foundation since 2017.
Those selected as beneficiaries will receive full support for the interest accrued over the six-month period from July to December of last year. The final list of recipients will be available on the Korea Student Aid Foundation website in June.
A city official stated, "We have strengthened support to reduce the financial burden caused by tuition and living expenses, so that young people can focus on their studies and prepare for their futures," and added, "We hope for the active interest of citizens with university student children."
Meanwhile, since the implementation of the student loan interest support program, the city has provided a total of 183 million won to 3,340 people, taking the lead in reducing the educational expenses burden for students.
