2025 Busan Media Members Launch Ceremony
20 Foreigners from 16 Countries to Play a "Global Role"
The scale of the citizen reporter group directly involved in promoting Busan has reached an all-time high.
The Busan Metropolitan Government (Mayor Park Heongjoon) announced on the 13th that it has newly appointed the 2025 Busan Media Members and will begin full-scale activities to strengthen citizen-led promotion and expand communication and empathy with citizens.
The 'Media Members' is a citizen reporter group that utilizes various new media platforms such as blogs and social networking services (SNS) to create and promote content about Busan’s changes and achievements in a way that resonates with citizens.
This year’s Media Members, selected in the largest number ever at 120 members, include a diverse range of people, from Busan-based content creators who have consistently promoted local restaurants, parenting, culture, and tourism, to foreigners from 16 countries, and winners of short-form content contests.
Twenty foreigners from various countries, including Singapore, Kazakhstan, Libya, Kyrgyzstan, Mexico, and Turkiye, have joined, raising expectations that Busan’s appeal will be promoted more widely from a global perspective.
To strengthen the production of short-form content, which is leading current promotional trends, the number of short-form specialists has been greatly increased, with plans to effectively communicate Busan’s key policies and changes through concise and impactful video content.
The launch ceremony marking the beginning of this year’s Media Members activities will be held in two parts at 4 p.m. on the 14th in the main conference room at City Hall. Part one will feature the promotion of the city’s theme song, congratulatory remarks, and the awarding of appointment certificates.
In part two, the 'Busan City Golden Bell' quiz will be held to enhance Media Members’ understanding of city administration, followed by a briefing on annual activities and networking time.
Starting with this launch ceremony, Media Members will be actively covering and producing content on Busan’s future vision, major projects, events, tourism, and cultural content until December 31, entering a full-fledged promotional campaign.
The produced content will be promoted not only through the reporter group’s SNS accounts but also via the city’s official accounts. By utilizing blogs, photos, and short-form content, it is expected to contribute greatly to promoting Busan’s appeal both domestically and internationally.
The Busan Metropolitan Government plans to award certificates of merit in the mayor’s name to outstanding participants after the activities conclude.
Park Kwangmyung, spokesperson for Busan, said, “Citizens themselves are becoming the main agents of promoting Busan’s changes,” and added, “We ask for active participation so that the vivid content created by Media Members resonates with Busan citizens and spreads widely around the world.”
Spokesperson Park also stated, “We expect that citizen-created content will play a major role in enhancing Busan’s brand value and strengthening its status as a global city of cultural tourism,” and continued, “We will continue to strengthen citizen-centered promotional strategies so that more citizens can take interest in and participate in city administration.”
