Supporting the Establishment of a Voluntary Growth and Collaborative Learning Community for Teachers
The Ulsan Metropolitan Office of Education (Superintendent Cheon Changsu) is operating a virtual school called "Haedoji (Haeboja! Challenge! Now!) School" to enhance teachers' professionalism and support classroom innovation.
"Haedoji School" is a practice community that helps teachers try new educational methods without fear of failure. Its goal is to promote voluntary growth and collaborative relationships among teachers and to activate student-centered classes.
Haedoji School is open to middle and high school teachers who aspire to change and innovation, teachers who want to implement student-led classes, and those who wish to cultivate a spirit of challenge and practical skills.
After admission, the school is organized into departments such as "Challenge Department," "Failure Department," and "Retry Department" to support teachers' continuous growth and challenges.
The program is conducted in a non-face-to-face format using social networking services (SNS, Band), providing regular reflection and feedback.
Participants set individual challenge tasks, carry out weekly practice missions, and consult with fellow teachers. The program also includes a performance sharing session to share cases of educational change, expert lectures, and writing book reviews on specialized books.
This year, Haedoji School will be operated in two cohorts. The first cohort will accept applications until the 14th and run from March 28 to July 31. The second cohort will accept applications from August 18 to 25 and operate from August 28 to December 31.
Graduation requirements include "setting a challenge task, taking a midterm exam, completing weekly missions for at least 14 weeks, and writing a book review on a specialized book." A performance sharing session will also be held at the graduation ceremony.
Detailed information about the academic operation of Haedoji School can be found on the Haedoji School website.
An official from the Ulsan Metropolitan Office of Education said, "Haedoji School is meaningful in spreading a culture of educational innovation through teachers' voluntary challenges and growth," and added, "We will actively support the change in teaching methods so that student-led learning can take root."
