At the kickoff meeting, attendees included Baek Gyeong-hyun, mayor of Guri City, representatives from the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, the Korea Rail Network Authority, private business operators, and service providers.
At the meeting, Mayor Baek expressed frustration that Guri City is the only local government along the GTX-B line section from Incheon Songdo to Maseok without a stop, yet is required to contribute approximately 40 billion KRW to the GTX-B metropolitan railway costs. He emphasized that the Galmae District, completed in 2019 (1.43 million㎡ / 31,000 residents), and the Galmae Station Area District, scheduled for completion in 2027 (800,000㎡ / planned population of about 16,000), have no metropolitan traffic improvement measures, resulting in severe traffic congestion on Gyeongchunbuk-ro during commuting hours. Considering that traffic chaos is inevitable once nearby new towns such as Wangsuk District are completed in 2028, the GTX-B Galmae Station stop project is a critical matter vital to the city’s survival.
Mayor Baek stated, “To confirm the Galmae Station stop on the GTX-B line, the preliminary feasibility study conducted in 2024 showed an economic feasibility index of over 1.5, leading the Korea Rail Network Authority to carry out the feasibility verification service. We will do our best to ensure this service is successfully completed so that the GTX-B Galmae Station stop can be finalized.”
Meanwhile, the Korea Rail Network Authority began the "Feasibility Verification Service for the Additional Stop at Galmae Station on the Metropolitan Area Express Railway Line B" in February and plans to complete it by August this year.
