Operation of Bicycle Repair Shop and Insurance System
'Singsing Bicycle School' for Beginners
Gwangju Nam-gu (District Mayor Kim Byungnae) announced on the 13th that it is promoting various policy projects, such as operating a bicycle repair shop and insurance system, to encourage bicycle use and create an eco-friendly green city.
The district office's bicycle use promotion policy consists of four main initiatives.
Recently, a bicycle repair shop opened on the first floor of the district office annex. Here, services such as repairing bicycles in need of maintenance and renting shared bicycles are provided.
Except for periods of extreme heat, typhoons, and other disaster risks, the shop will operate every week from Tuesday to Friday until November. Visitors can receive various free inspections at the repair shop between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. on weekdays.
If an accident occurs while riding a bicycle, insurance benefits are also provided. Any resident registered in the district can receive these benefits without any separate subscription process, and compensation is available not only for accidents while riding a bicycle but also for pedestrian accidents involving bicycles.
In addition, starting next month, base terminals will be operated at two locations with frequent bicycle traffic along riverside trails. The base terminals will be located at Seungchonbo Yeongsangang Culture Center and under the Jungang Bridge of Gwangjucheon, and will be open every Saturday and Sunday.
Basic maintenance, such as chain lubrication and air refills, will be provided free of charge, while paid services will be available for bicycle parts or repairs that require more attention.
Additionally, from next month, the "Singsing Bicycle School" for beginners and newcomers will be launched. A specialized agency will be in charge of the program, and recruitment for local elementary schools and residents interested in participating will be conducted separately at a later date.
Participants in the bicycle school will learn essential basics for getting started with cycling, including mounting and dismounting the saddle, handlebar operation, gear shifting, and basic pedaling.
A Nam-gu official stated, "The number of people using bicycles as a means of commuting and for health reasons is increasing," and added, "We will accelerate the implementation of policy projects to ensure there are no inconveniences in using bicycles."
