The Graduate School of Engineering at Daegu Gyeongbuk Institute of Science and Technology (DGIST) Gumi Campus officially opened on the 13th, marking the beginning of its full-scale efforts to drive regional industrial innovation.
About 40 key figures from economic organizations, including Jangho Kim, Mayor of Gumi, Geonwoo Lee, President of DGIST, and Hyukjun Choi, Director of the Meta AI Science Bureau of Gyeongsangbuk-do, as well as representatives from the Gumi Defense Industry Association and the Gumi Small and Medium Business Association, attended the opening ceremony.
The opening ceremony was attended by Gumi Mayor Kim Jangho, DGIST President Lee Geonwoo, Gyeongsangbuk-do Meta AI Science Bureau Director Choi Hyukjun, as well as over 40 key figures from major economic organizations such as the Gumi Defense Industry Association and the Gumi Small and Medium Business Association.
The DGIST Graduate School of Engineering Gumi Campus operates a two-year master's degree program in engineering, closely linked with local industries.
In particular, the campus plans to nurture field-oriented engineers based on customized corporate research and development (R&D) projects and to support the resolution of technical challenges faced by companies.
By actively utilizing both internal and external expert faculty and state-of-the-art research facilities, the campus aims to foster field-based R&D capabilities and promote practical technological innovation and enhanced industrial competitiveness through collaboration with local companies. This is expected to contribute to revitalizing the local economy.
Gumi Mayor Kim Jangho emphasized, "What is needed for the development of local industry is the supply of talent and technological innovation," adding, "The DGIST Graduate School of Engineering Gumi Campus will become a new growth engine for Gumi's industry."
Meanwhile, a representative of a small and medium-sized enterprise in Gumi expressed anticipation, saying, "We have faced many difficulties in solving technical problems so far, but now we have the opportunity to collaborate with DGIST."
