Hwaseong City Confirms "Dongtan Central Library" Name as "Hwaseong Central Library"

A total floor area of 10,637㎡ to be built in Dongtan New Town
Featuring a 'Larchiveum' combining library, museum, and archive functions

Gyeonggi-do Hwaseong City announced on the 13th that the name of the 'Dongtan Central Library (tentative name)' being constructed at 139 Bansong-dong in Dongtan New Town has been finalized as 'Hwaseong Central Library.'

'Hwaseong Central Library' will serve as the representative library of Hwaseong City and act as the control tower for the Hwaseong Municipal Library.


The library is being built with a total floor area of 10,637㎡, spanning from one basement floor to four above-ground floors. It will be developed as a complex cultural platform featuring the largest reading room among libraries in the district, a knowledge forest, a 'Larchiveum' combining the functions of a library, archive, and museum, a book cafe, and various community spaces. Construction began in March 2023, with completion scheduled for July this year and opening planned for October.


Previously, a naming contest held by the city in October last year received a total of 898 proposals. After evaluations by the working department and advisory review, a preference survey was conducted on seven shortlisted candidates, with 'Hwaseong Central Library' receiving 44% support and being confirmed as the official name.



Jung Myung-geun, Mayor of Hwaseong City, stated, "We will make every effort to prepare for the opening so that Hwaseong Central Library can provide the best services as a landmark library representing Hwaseong City."
