Jeonju University to Host 'National Taekwondo Championship' from May 1 to 6

"Nurturing Talent for the Taekwondo Cultural Industry"

Jeonju University (President Park Jinbae) announced on the 13th that it will host the "3rd Jeonju University President's Cup National Taekwondo Competition" on campus from May 1 to 6.


The Jeonju University President's Cup National Taekwondo Competition, now in its third year, is organized by Jeonju University, Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province, and Jeonju City, with the aim of fostering talent for the settlement-based Taekwondo industry.

This competition, approved by the Korea Taekwondo Association, is a prestigious event where winners in the breaking and poomsae divisions are granted special nationwide admissions and the right to be selected as national representatives. Every year, about 3,000 student athletes participate, enhancing the reputation of Jeonju University as a leading Taekwondo institution and drawing visitors to Jeonbuk annually.


President Park Jinbae stated, "The recent selection of the host city for the 2036 Summer Olympics demonstrates innovation in achieving balanced regional development through sports by fostering regional solidarity and harmony," and added, "As Taekwondo is a representative content of the region, we will do our best to ensure that the Jeonju University President's Cup National Taekwondo Competition helps both the region and the university nurture a settlement-based Taekwondo cultural industry together."


Lee Sukkyung, head of the Department of Taekwondo at Jeonju University, said, "We will provide a variety of Taekwondo attractions in connection with the region and lay the foundation for the Jeonbuk-style Taekwondo competition to become a global festival."


Meanwhile, the Department of Taekwondo at Jeonju University has promoted Jeonbuk Special Self-Governing Province to the world by participating in renowned audition programs in 2024 in the UK, Russia, Italy, and more, showcasing Jeonbuk’s culture and traditions through Taekwondo together with "Ssaulabi."


This year, with domestic and international activities such as the Macau International Festival and Spain's Got Talent, the department plans to further promote the Olympics under the slogan "2036 Olympics in Korea."
