"Democratic Party Must Immediately Stop Reckless Impeachment Attempts"

On the 13th, the People Power Party evaluated the Constitutional Court's dismissal of the impeachment motion against Choi Jae-hae, Chairman of the Board of Audit and Inspection, and three prosecutors as a "natural outcome."

Shin Dong-wook, the chief spokesperson for the People Power Party, stated in a commentary on the same day, "We hope that the Constitutional Court's dismissal of the impeachment motion will become the starting point for the normalization of the Republic of Korea."

Spokesperson Shin pointed out, "Impeachment is the last resort used by the National Assembly when a public official commits a serious legal violation, serving as a key mechanism to protect democracy and the rule of law. However, the reasons for impeachment put forward by the Democratic Party were far from the serious and clear unconstitutional or illegal grounds required for dismissal of the accused."

He also criticized, "The Democratic Party abused the fact that the impeachment motion alone can suspend a public official's duties, causing damage due to work gaps and pushing impeachment as a means to launch offensive attacks against the ruling party."

Spokesperson Shin added, "Therefore, the Democratic Party's reckless use of impeachment is far from its essence and is being criticized as Lee Jae-myung's 'bulletproof and retaliatory impeachment' and 'political impeachment.' Impeachment is not a sword that any particular faction can arbitrarily wield whenever they want."

He also raised criticism regarding the Democratic Party's announcement of the impeachment of Prosecutor General Shim Woo-jung. Spokesperson Shin said, "They have stirred up government paralysis and social chaos through habitual reckless impeachment, shaking the constitutional order of the Republic of Korea to its roots, and are even trying to set a record for the '30th impeachment.' We urge them to apologize to the public for the confusion caused by the reckless impeachment without justification or benefit and to immediately stop politically motivated impeachment attempts."
