Jinju, Korea's Leading City for Wooden Architecture,
Showcases Excellence at the Korea Timber Building Expo
Jinju City in Gyeongnam, recognized as the leading city for wooden architecture in Korea, participated as the only local government at the ‘2025 Korea Timber Building Expo (KTB 2025)’ held in Suwon. The city showcased its efforts for carbon neutrality and the promotion of green architecture, widely promoting the excellence of wooden architecture nationwide.
The Korea Timber Building Expo, which opened on the 12th and runs until the 15th, is the largest specialized event for wooden architecture in the country. Major institutions leading Korea’s wooden architecture, including the Korea Forest Service, the National Arboretum, the National Institute of Forest Science, and the Timber Architecture Technology Association, gather in one place to envision the future of wooden architecture in Korea.
At this expo, Jinju City is presenting wooden architecture cases that reflect the region’s unique characteristics by applying various wooden construction methods. Through exhibitions of eco-friendly building models, exchanges among experts, and policy promotion, the city actively communicates its commitment to wooden architecture and demonstrates the potential for continuous development in this field.
Jinju City was the first in Gyeongnam to implement a public architect system and has consistently worked to lead the use of wood in public architecture over the past several years. As a result, the city has won awards at the Korea Timber Architecture Competition for four consecutive years and has solidified its status as a representative city for wooden architecture, with numerous benchmarking requests from local governments and wood-related institutions nationwide. At this expo, Jinju City is intensively exhibiting these major achievements and outstanding works, widely publicizing its advanced wooden architecture technology.
Vice Mayor Cha Seokho said, “Through participation in this expo, we will promote the excellence of Jinju’s wooden architecture nationwide and further strengthen our position as a leading city for wooden architecture through continued promotion and collaboration with experts.”
