Expanding Parents' Participation in Education Policy through Parent Instructors and Policy Monitoring
Promotion, Monitoring, Operational Support, and Parent Instructor Activities
Geumcheon-gu (Mayor Yu Seong-hoon) held the 3rd launch ceremony of the ‘Haksamo’ on the 12th to expand parents' participation in education policy.
‘Haksamo’ is an organization formed to increase opportunities for parents to volunteer in education policy and career education fields. The name means ‘a group of parents supporting Geumcheon education with a sense of mission.’
Parents whose children are enrolled in elementary, middle, or high schools within the district, or parents of children attending schools outside the district but residing in Geumcheon-gu, can apply anytime on the Geumcheon Career and Admission Center website.
Haksamo members engage in four main areas: ▲promotion of education projects ▲monitoring ▲event operation support ▲parent instructors.
Members promote the district’s education projects through parent associations and social networks (SNS), inspect education programs and events, or assist in their operation. After completing capacity-building training, they conduct student education as parent instructors or handle initial career counseling sessions.
At the launch ceremony held at the Geumcheon Career and Admission Support Center (Siheung) on this day, new and existing Haksamo members and education officials gathered to share ways to activate parental participation in education and discuss operational directions.
The 18 members of the 3rd Haksamo will complete training after the launch ceremony and engage in activities in each field until February next year. After the activities conclude, the results will be analyzed to improve operational plans, supporting ‘Haksamo’ to establish itself as a key organization in regional education development. A district official stated, “This year, we plan to strengthen the expertise of Haksamo members by increasing the number of professional qualification trainings, including basic and job training, and support members to share and learn practical experiences in the field.”
Yu Seong-hoon, Mayor of Geumcheon-gu, said, “We will actively support Haksamo activities so that parents can take a leading role in education policy and contribute not only to their children's education but also to the development of education in the local community.”
Last year, 19 Haksamo members contributed to the district’s education policy operations by working as assistant instructors for robot coding education and aptitude tests or supporting career and admission fairs. Additionally, a total of 24 members obtained professional qualifications in courses such as career counseling experts, self-directed learning instructors, and Enneagram general instructors.
