Doosan Enerbility to Build Offshore Wind Turbine Factory in Changwon

Agreement with Global No.1 Siemens Gamesa
14MW-Class... Large Turbines with Over 200m Diameter

Doosan Enerbility will build a factory to manufacture 14MW-class offshore wind turbines for the German offshore wind company Siemens Gamesa. In South Korea, a 10MW-class turbine is currently in the demonstration phase, which is the largest capacity domestically.

Doosan Enerbility announced on the 12th that it signed an Early Works Agreement (EWA) with Siemens Gamesa on the 11th to establish a new wind power plant in Changwon. The signing ceremony held at Doosan Enerbility’s headquarters in Changwon, Gyeongnam, was attended by key personnel including Yoon Yohan, Head of Power Service Sales at Doosan Enerbility, Lee Kwang-yeol, Head of Power Service Design and Production, and Felk Murdon, Head of Nacelle (energy storage components) Production at Siemens Gamesa.

Previously, in 2022, the two companies formed a strategic partnership to expand the domestic offshore wind market, and through this agreement, they are entering the full execution phase. Doosan Enerbility will begin designing the 14MW offshore wind turbine manufacturing plant and production system within the Changwon factory. The 14MW turbine is a large-scale turbine with a diameter exceeding 200 meters. Siemens Gamesa will transfer technology and support personnel to help Doosan Enerbility enhance its capability in nacelle assembly for offshore wind turbines. Training and education will also be provided.

Siemens Gamesa is a subsidiary of Siemens Energy in Germany responsible for the wind power business division. It holds the number one market share in power supply in the global offshore wind market. Doosan Enerbility started its wind power business in 2005 and holds the largest supply record for offshore wind power in South Korea.

Son Seung-woo, Head of Doosan Enerbility’s Power Service Business Group, said, "Through the synergy of cooperation between the two companies, we will contribute not only to revitalizing the domestic offshore wind ecosystem but also to expanding carbon-free energy." Felk Murdon stated, "Doosan is a strong and reliable partner for us to enter the Korean offshore wind market," adding, "We will work closely to ensure smooth technology transfer and to introduce 14MW-class wind turbines to Korean offshore sites."
