Targeting 2,100 Students...
Budget to Be Reflected in the Second Supplementary Budget
Osan City in Gyeonggi Province announced on the 11th that it will provide a congratulatory gift of 100,000 won to 2,100 elementary school entrants this year.
The city explained that this support plan was expanded from the existing multi-child household-centered support to new students in order to reduce the economic burden on parents and encourage children’s first school life. Previously, the city enacted an ordinance to establish the basis for providing the congratulatory gift.

To this end, the city plans to reflect the related budget in the second supplementary budget of 2025. Once the budget is confirmed, the city intends to provide local currency (Osaekjeon) worth 100,000 won to 2,100 elementary school entrants registered as residents of the city starting from May.
Applications can be submitted by the guardian either online (Government24) or by visiting the local administrative welfare center. However, the provided local currency will be restricted for use only in designated sectors such as books, stationery, eyeglasses, clothing, shoes, and bags to promote the revitalization of the local economy.
The city plans to distribute notices about the congratulatory gift through each elementary school and strengthen publicity using the city hall website, social networking services (SNS), and electronic billboards.
Lee Gwon-jae, Mayor of Osan City, said, "This congratulatory gift is being provided to support children’s school life and reduce the economic burden on parents. We will continue to do our best to expand educational welfare and create a child-friendly environment."
