Global content company Copus Korea announced on the 11th that it has signed a tripartite memorandum of understanding (MOU) for joint development and investment in content IP (intellectual property) with GOKKO and M GROUP HOLDING AND CAPITAL through its Japanese subsidiary Copus Contents Lab (COPUS CONTENTS LAB, hereinafter ‘CCL’).
This agreement aims to jointly produce about 20 pieces of content, including short-form original content from both Korea and Japan and Korean drama remakes, to expand the IP business. Additionally, CCL plans to implement an OSMU (One Source Multi Use) strategy by serving as an MCP to distribute content and supply excellent Korean original IP.
Established in 2022, GOKKO is a short-form production company that creates global short-form content covering everything from planning, scripting, editing, filming, to marketing. It currently operates the short-form platform ‘POPCORN’ and is a leading company in the Japanese short-form content market.
M GROUP HOLDING AND CAPITAL is a global investment firm with bases in more than 10 countries worldwide. It has 74 affiliates and operates in media, sports, consulting, advertising, financial investment, mergers and acquisitions (M&A), and infrastructure businesses.
In this way, Copus Korea is accelerating its entry into the short-form business beyond drama distribution and production. In October last year, it established a joint venture, Hyper Epic, with the short-form content producer Bambunetwork. It is preparing to launch a global short-form platform this month and plans to release more than 10 pieces of content, including short-form dramas.
Moreover, through its Japanese subsidiary Copus Japan (COPUS JAPAN), Copus Korea plans to release the drama ‘Heosikdang,’ starring Xiumin, which was co-produced with domestic production companies and Hakuhodo DY Music & Pictures, this year. In response to recent changes in the content production environment, Copus Korea intends to continuously promote Korea-Japan co-production content development through its Japanese subsidiary.
A Copus Korea official stated, “As the global short-form content market rapidly grows, Copus Korea will open new possibilities in the short-form content market company-wide. In the mid to long term, we will continue to expand global partners to successfully develop IPs across various genres.”
