Kwon Seong-dong, Shim Woo-jung on Opposition's Impeachment Push: "An Attempt to Drive Us into Actual Civil War"

Kwon: "If Detention Cancellation and Release Are Problematic, It Is Normal to Hold the Court Accountable"

Kwon Seong-dong, leader of the People Power Party, criticized the Democratic Party of Korea, which is pushing for the impeachment of Prosecutor General Shim Woo-jung, who directed the release of President Yoon Seok-yeol and the abandonment of immediate appeals, on the 11th, saying, "Not only have they driven the Republic of Korea into a 'psychological civil war' state, but they are also continuing attempts to push it into an 'actual civil war'."

At the party floor meeting held at the National Assembly that morning, Floor Leader Kwon said, "The 30th line impeachment, political special investigations, baseless fasting, and overnight sit-ins carried out by the Democratic Party's Lee Jae-myung faction are all attempts to drive the Republic of Korea into a civil war state following the Constitutional Court's presidential impeachment."

Regarding the push for Prosecutor General Shim's impeachment, he pointed out that it was incomprehensible, saying, "What crime did the Prosecutor General, who followed the court's ruling, commit? If the cancellation of detention and release are judged to be wrong decisions, isn't it normal to hold the court responsible?"

Regarding the reason why the Democratic Party cannot push for the impeachment of judges, Floor Leader Kwon claimed that it was due to concerns that it would affect the trial of Democratic Party leader Lee Jae-myung. He criticized, "Isn't it that they cannot impeach judges because they fear it will negatively affect his eight cases, twelve charges, and five trials, and instead want to impeach only the Prosecutor General who simply followed the court's ruling?"

He added, "It is said that 460 million won of taxpayers' money was wasted due to the 29th line impeachment by the major opposition party," and continued, "The economic cost our society has borne due to the confusion caused by the suspension of high-ranking officials' duties is likely to be much larger, in the 'trillion won' range."

Furthermore, he strongly urged, "I strongly urge the Lee Jae-myung faction to return to the path for the people, not the 30th line impeachment and baseless fasting aimed at inciting civil war."
