Barley stomping is a traditional agricultural custom that prevents barley roots from lifting due to the frozen and swollen ground during winter, helping the roots to grow stronger. At the event, citizens took a meaningful time walking together through the green barley field, wishing for the healthy growth of the barley.
This event was held in connection with the ‘Spring Outing Following the Waterway’ event organized by the Uijeongbu City Autonomous Administration Division. Marking the seasonal term ‘Gyeongchip,’ when all living things awaken from winter sleep, citizen representatives from each district walked the riverside path in a relay format and held the barley stomping event at the fifth course, the green barley field.
At the venue, amid the lively performance of a pungmul band, citizens gathered to stomp the barley, enjoying the warm spring atmosphere and sharing a meaningful time praying for health and a bountiful harvest for the year.
Mayor Kim Dong-geun said, “Just as barley firmly takes root and grows strong, we will do our best to make Uijeongbu City a city that grows and develops further.”
Uijeongbu City plans to continue operating various citizen participation programs in harmony with nature to provide richer ecological experience opportunities for local residents.
