Lee Sang-cheol Emphasizes "One Team with the Space Aviation Agency"
Pursuing Proactive Change and Challenges
On the 10th, the Korea Aerospace Research Institute (KARI) announced an organizational restructuring to further strengthen the 'One Team' cooperation system with the Space Aviation Agency by renaming the existing 'Aerospace Research Institute' to 'Aerospace Innovation Institute' and the 'Satellite Research Institute' to 'Satellite Space Exploration Institute.'
To successfully complete the core national R&D projects, including the Next-Generation Launch Vehicle Development Project and the Korean Launch Vehicle Advancement Project, KARI reorganized the system research departments within the existing Launch Vehicle Research Institute into 'Launch Vehicle System Research Division 1' and 'Launch Vehicle System Research Division 2.' Division 1 focuses on the Korean Launch Vehicle Advancement Project involving repeated launches of the Nuri rocket, while Division 2 concentrates on the Next-Generation Launch Vehicle Development Project.
A 'Lunar Lander Project Group' was newly established within the Satellite Space Exploration Institute to lay the foundation for the successful execution of the lunar lander project. Additionally, in preparation for the expansion of national space exploration missions led by the Space Aviation Agency, a 'Space Exploration Research Center' was also established to lead innovative research in space exploration technologies.
In the aerospace sector, to respond more broadly to future aviation technologies, the 'UAM Research Division,' focused on Urban Air Mobility (UAM), was reorganized into the 'AAM Research Division' to expand into the Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) domain. The 'Unmanned Aerial Vehicle Research Division' was renamed the 'Future Aircraft Research Division' to secure a comprehensive research foundation for aviation technologies.
To ensure that the institute's excellent human resources receive appropriate treatment and fair evaluation, an 'HR and Labor Innovation Division' was newly established to pursue multifaceted innovation in personnel systems and stable personnel management. Under this division, a 'Labor-Management Development Team' was also created to foster a cooperative labor-management culture for the institute's development.
Furthermore, to strengthen Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) management, the existing Ethics Management Office was reorganized into the 'Ethics and ESG Management Office' directly under the director. To establish a foundation for the successful settlement of a private-led space industry ecosystem and the construction of a national space economy, an 'Industry-Academia-Research Cooperation Team' was also newly established.
Lee Sang-cheol, Director of KARI, stated, "To realize the vision of becoming one of the top five space aviation powers and to industrialize the national core industry through the creation of an industrial ecosystem, we will unite even more closely as one team with the Space Aviation Agency and proactively pursue changes and challenges."
