The Gwangju Office of Education announced on the 10th that the "Democracy, Human Rights, and Peaceful Unification International Exchange Group" recently visited Kepler High School in Leipzig, Germany, and held a book discussion. This discussion was organized as part of an exchange program between the Gwangju Office of Education and the Leipzig Office of Education.
The students discussed state violence, the banality of evil, and the loss of humanity through "The Boy Is Coming," which deals with the May 18 Gwangju Democratization Movement in 1980. Gwangju students emphasized the value of peace on the Korean Peninsula and democracy, while German students highlighted the importance of international solidarity for peace and human rights.
Superintendent Lee Jungseon said, "I hope this international exchange has been an opportunity to learn the value of cultural understanding and peace," and added, "We will actively support students so that they can grow as global citizens."
