The 'Automobile Carbon Neutrality Point System' is a greenhouse gas reduction program in the transportation sector that provides incentives of up to 100,000 KRW per year based on the amount of mileage reduction for non-commercial gasoline, diesel, and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) passenger and van vehicles (up to 12 seats).
However, electric, hybrid, and hydrogen vehicles are excluded from participation.
This year, the province will recruit the same number of 3,108 participating vehicles as last year.
To participate, visit the Automobile Carbon Neutrality Point System website, sign up as a member, and complete the application by registering photos of the vehicle license plate and dashboard through the link sent via text message.
Only the vehicle owner can apply for final approval, and only one vehicle per person is allowed. Approval is granted on a first-come, first-served basis according to photo submission, and no additional applications are accepted once the quota is filled.
For new vehicles, incentives are provided based on the reduction performance by comparing the average daily mileage from the vehicle registration date to the participation date with the mileage during the participation period. For used vehicles, the calculation is based on the date of vehicle acquisition to the participation date.
Those wishing to participate in the Energy Carbon Neutrality Point System can do so at any time without a separate application period by visiting the Carbon Neutrality Point System website or contacting the relevant city or county office. From 2008 to 2024, a total of 240,000 households in the province have participated.
Song Geumhyeon, Director of the Provincial Environment and Forestry Bureau, said, "The participation rate in the Automobile Carbon Neutrality Point System is increasing every year, so we are working to continuously expand the project budget. As the realization of carbon neutrality greatly depends on the actions of each resident, we hope many more residents will join this effort."
Meanwhile, the province is also operating the 'Energy Carbon Neutrality Point System,' which provides incentives based on the reduction rate of electricity, water, and city gas usage in households and commercial buildings.
