Sharing Future Development Directions in the Maritime Sector
HD Hyundai announced on the 9th that Senior Vice Chairman Jeong Jeong-seon visited the United States Naval Academy.
On the 7th (local time), Senior Vice Chairman Jeong visited the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, where he met with school officials including Principal Vice Admiral Ebbett M. Davis and Dean of Academic Affairs Samara Firebo.
He also toured the ship structure lecture site and the fluid dynamics laboratory, exchanging views with faculty and midshipmen on the future development directions and research tasks in the maritime field.
During a conversation with the midshipmen, Senior Vice Chairman Jeong said, "The Korea-U.S. alliance has been strengthened over decades through sacrifice and has become a pillar of global security beyond a simple military partnership. The Republic of Korea will continue to be a steadfast ally of the United States and a trusted partner, driving innovation in the shipbuilding and maritime sectors."
He added, "HD Hyundai has secured world-class technology in AI-based autonomous navigation and digital advanced shipbuilding. We have successfully built and delivered five world-class Aegis destroyers to the Navy, supporting national security innovation," emphasizing the company's achievements.
Former Chief of Naval Operations of the Republic of Korea Navy, Jeong Hoseop, who accompanied Senior Vice Chairman Jeong on the visit, expressed his hope that "based on the world's top shipbuilding technology, active cooperation with the U.S. Navy will contribute to maintaining world peace."
Senior Vice Chairman Jeong, a former officer of the Army Special Forces Brigade, sent a barbecue special meal to Navy ROTC cadets undergoing winter training at the Naval Education Command in Jinhae last January, and also delivered a coffee truck to the Army ROTC winter training camp in January 2023.
Since signing a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for educational cooperation to nurture talent in the shipbuilding industry with the University of Michigan and Seoul National University in July last year, HD Hyundai has been expanding cooperation with the U.S. in the shipbuilding sector through joint research, education, and internship programs.
